Asia-Pacific faces a dangerous financial squeeze that is undermining prevention and community support GENEVA/BANGKOK, 26 November 2025—The AIDS response has suffered its most serious setback in decades, warns a new UNAIDS report released ahead of World AIDS Day (1 December). Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response details how a sharp fall in international funding is hitting low- and middle-income countries hardest and threatening to reverse hard-won gains.

For the first time, UNAIDS staff from Asia Pacific (AP) and Eastern Europe Central Asia (EECA) came together for a joint Regional Cluster Meeting (RCM), held from June 12 – 14 in Bangkok, Thailand.   

The UNAIDS Regional Support Team and Asian Development Bank will host a side meeting ahead of the 2024 Prince Mahidol Award Conference (PMAC) in Bangkok, Thailand on January 22nd. The event will explore how countries can ensure access to health services by key populations and marginalized populations. Registration is open until January 15th.

Cambodia’s HIV response over the past two decades has been highly successful and has led the country to be one of seven globally to achieve the 90-90-90 targets. The number of new HIV infections has fallen to approximately 654 in 2017, and Cambodia has the highest treatment coverage in the Asia and the Pacific region.
