UNAIDS India Recognized at National Transgender Awards

The UNAIDS India team and our cosponsor, UNDP India, were honoured at the 3rd National Transgender Awards, for our steadfast commitment to championing the rights of the transgender community, working towards their access to healthcare and advocating for their empowerment.

The awards ceremony was organised by the Gaurav Trust in collaboration with the National Network of Transgender Persons (NNTP) and has been held for three consecutive years. It has emerged as a platform to acknowledge the tireless efforts of community-based organisations, allies and individuals dedicated to advancing transgender rights across India.

UNAIDS India’s approach to addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by transgender individuals encompasses a range of interventions. These include increased access to healthcare, HIV prevention, treatment and care services, legal advocacy, policy interventions and economic inclusion initiatives in collaboration with national and state governments, UN Cosponsors and partners.

By providing platforms for advocacy, capacity building, and leadership development, UNAIDS India has helped amplify the voices of transgender individuals, ensuring their inclusion in decision-making processes with the government.

This recognition serves as a testament to UNAIDS’ unwavering commitment to amplifying the voices of transgender communities globally and advocating for their health and rights.

Moving forward, UNAIDS India reaffirms its commitment to continue working for the key populations across India. Together with our cosponsors, we aim to protect everyone’s rights, to protect everyone’s health.
